Key WASH activities

1. 1

   Rehabilitate and construct safe water points: Following in-depth assessment of safe water needs, WEFOD works with communities to determine locations for construction or rehabilitation.

   Constructing sanitary facilities: In schools, health facilities, community institutions and households as needed.

3. 3

   Community water committees: Training community volunteers to manage safe water points and maintain cleanliness. WEFOD establishes Water User Committees (WUCs) for sustainable management.

4. 4

   Raising awareness and education: Increasing community awareness on water conservation, cleanliness maintenance, and importance of using sanitary facilities instead of open defecation.

5. 5

   Managing waste: Working with community leaders to manage waste in households, health and industrial facilities.

Our 2030 WASH targets (SDG 6)

• 6.1 — Achieve universal and equitable access to safe and affordable drinking water for all
• 6.2 — Achieve access to adequate and equitable sanitation and hygiene for all, end open defecation, with special attention to women and girls
• 6.3 — Improve water quality by reducing pollution, eliminating dumping, halving untreated wastewater, increasing recycling and safe reuse
• 6.4 — Increase water-use efficiency, ensure sustainable withdrawals and freshwater supply to address water scarcity
• 6.5 — Implement integrated water resources management at all levels
• 6.6 — Protect and restore water-related ecosystems (mountains, forests, wetlands, rivers, aquifers, lakes)
• 6.A — Expand international cooperation and capacity-building in water and sanitation activities
• 6.B — Support and strengthen participation of local communities in improving water and sanitation management
